Installation begins on roof of Weser Stadium in Bremen
Elsenfeld, 19. 5. 2009. Now that the first SUNOVATION® module has been installed, the inner ring of the roof of the Weser stadium is taking shape.
Renovation work is currently underway on the Weser Stadium in Bremen. The inner part of the roof is a particular attraction, being transparent and at the same time integrating photovoltaic technology. The innovative photovoltaic modules of Sunplastics are the technology that makes this possible. Because of the long overhang of the roof, the weight of the roofing is critical. At 10.5 kg/m², Sunplastics’ lightweight, high-grade plastic SUNOVATION® modules are approximately 60% lighter than comparable glass products.
The so-called “Platinum Area“ (VIP area) is the first to be re-roofed. The 3.5 m², transparent photovoltaic modules produce electricity as well as providing shelter from the wind and rain. They also allow in more than half the sunlight, however, giving a special visual effect for visitors, and doing the grass on the pitch some good at the same time.
In the first phase of the building work, which covers the two straight longer parts of the roof, modules capable of producing 122 kWp are being installed. The electricity produced is fed into the national grid.
Sunplastics GmbH is a manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) modules, with close connections to the plastics industry as well as to the solar industry. The company’s core competence is in the production of photovoltaic modules. Modern, high-grade plastics are used instead of glass, and the solar cells are not laminated on to glass as is customary, but cast in a plastic encapsulation (SUNOVATION® Technology). This technology has proven its worth over 12 years of use. SUNOVATION® Modules are used mainly in architecture, street furniture, and in mobile applications such as cars and boats.
