Contrary to the laminated glass modules generally seen in the market, which are rigidly laminated in an elaborate thermal process, the layers of the SUNOVATION modules are flexibly linked to each other in a cold filling process. The sensitive cells are permanently elastic embedded with an UV stable and highly transparent multi-component gel. This results in safety-related, energetic and design-relevant advantages as for example a better fire protection, saving of energy and the possibility for customization. The elements are manufactured according to customers’ specifications with individual varieties of cell coverage and module geometry.

Glass structure

The glass structure is calculated according to building code and project-specific requirements. Various glass structures without limitation in terms of glass thickness are possible. For a maximum yield statically supporting base plates can for example be combined with a thin cover glass - also 3-fold structures and thermically bent glasses are employed.

Temperature resistance

PV cells create a thermal dissipation. Particularly in regions with extreme climate conditions this results in increased temperatures in the entire material compound. Different to conventional embedding materials, the silicon-based multi-component gel used by SUNOVATION enables a constant mechanic behavior from -40°C – 180°C.

UV resistance

Elements for building envelopes are exposed to various environmental impacts. For a long-term good visual appearance and high yields of a PV module an unimpendent light irradiation is very important. For this reason materials must be free of discolorations and clouding. The outstanding UV resistance of the highly transparent encapsulation material of SUNOVATION secures this on a long-term basis.


A well-known topic in the manufacturing process of PV laminates is the occurrence of potential induced degradation (PDI). Through the use of the special SUNOVATION silicone-based encapsulation material PID is excluded.


For installation, cleaning and maintenance purpose BIPV modules must be accessible. SUNOVATION modules are dimensioned according to occurring loads. The compounds of glass and silicone provide premium protection of the PV cells against mechanical loads. The accessibility of the modules was examined and confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institut ISE.
